Our Research

The Zhao Lab's current research entails focusing on three key goals:

1. to explore the effects of leptin modulation on healthspan and lifespan

Multiple mouse tools to modulate circulating leptin levels and leptin signaling pathway are already in place, paving the way for Zhao lab to further elucidate the potential role(s) played by leptin in aging and metabolic homeostasis.

2. to assess the effects of novel enzyme J18 on metabolic health and aging

Zhao lab has generated tissue specific J18 transgenic and floxed mice, which could increase or decrease J18 enzymatic activities in specific tissues. Using these murine models, we can offer a better understanding regarding J18 physiology.

3. to uncover the nature of Cln5 and ABHD6 as modulators of BMP

Further applying his expertise in mouse models, Dr. Zhao aims to study key regulators of Bis(monoacylglycero) Phosphate Lipids and explore their potential links to pathophysiology, including Alzheimer's Disease.
